Sitia is a small town of eastern Crete in the prefecture of Lassithi.
It is located in the northeastern part of the prefecture, in the west of the bay, 70 km east of Agios Nikolaos, Lasithi, and is the seat of the commune of the same name. It is the homeland of "Erotokritos" poet Vicentius Kornaros. Sitia has a small airport through which it connects with Athens and the Aegean islands, it is a tourist resort. The province's economy is basically based on primary agricultural output with a low yield due to the rocky nature of its territory. Second, the economy is based on crafts, trade, construction, and tourism.
Many great sights can be found in Sitia, such as the archaeological museum where there are sights from 350 BC until the 5,000 BCs from the Sitia region. The museum is divided into five sections referring to corresponding chronological periods. You can still see the fortress of the castle or Kazarma which was the barracks of the guard or even the commando during the Venetian domination, the folk music at the initiative of the "Vitsentzos Kornaros" club and the showcase of local products.
